In 2004 a concrete mattress was installed at the ferry quay i Svolvær, the capital city of the Lofoten islands. The project was done in cooperation with The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens Vegvesen), to evaluate the effect on a quay with erosion problems. 7 years later the mattress has proved to be very effective. There have been no more erosion problems, and the mattress is fully intact. The mattress is 11 x 22 meters, and the slope goes from height 0, 5 meters to about -10 meters.

Study the photos: The erosion protection is still intact after 6 years. Look here.

The consulting company Multiconsult AS in Narvik has done several inspections of the installation and given reports. Latest report was made in October 2010.
