New technology for erosion protection
Damages from erosion on rip-rap and around maritime infrastructure represent huge losses every year.
Marecom has developed a steel reinforced concrete mattress that is designed to protect rip-rap against washing and damage where the erosion forces are especially rough. Quay slopes, bridge pillars, river banks and dredged slopes under water are typical places where heavy streams from ship thrusters, waves and currents can cause problems.
The mattress is flexible, robust and durable. Compared with traditional methods this will resist more, last longer and have no need of maintenance. Marecom guarantees 60 years lifetime.
Construction
The Marecom mattress is made of strong PES/PVC coated fiber fabric, reinforced with galvanized steel wire rope and held together by a network of outside woven bands and inside spacers. The construction is very flexible, and can be tailor-made from case to case. I.e. a mattress was installed at a ferry quay in the north of Norway in 2004 with a size of 11 x 22 meters, and with an average thickness of 23 cm. It contained about 56 m3 of concrete, and weighed about 140 tons. The mattress is still fully intact, and has protected the quay effectively.
The installment can be done very effective, and allows business as usual on in the harbor. Marecom AS can do the engineering, design, manufacturing, installment and control according to the given assignment.
