Marecom AS installed erosion protection in Svolvær in October 2004 as a pilot project together with The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA). One year later (October 2005) the NPRA did an inspection with a diver to evaluate the stability and efficiency of the mattress. Chief Engineer Karl-Erik Hansen wrote in his report: "The main conclusion from the inspection is that the result is very good. .."
Multiconsult AS in Narvik did a new inspection five year later (October 2010), using a diver. Their report was also clear: The mattress is fully intact. (You can visit Multiconcult AS here)

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) report in October 2005: "The main conclusion from the inspection is that the result is very good. Some spots of erosion was detected at the ends of the mattress. Further erosion along the edge can be prevented by using stones. The mattress was placed very well, and had not changed in any way. No sign of breaches or cracks any where. The mattress was easy to install and fill, and is very suitable for these kinds of operations where stop in the daily activities at the quay will be costly. From our experience in Svolvær we kan see that the Marecom mattress is suitable for 1) breakwaters and landfills that is eroded by sea currents and waves, 2) protection against erosion at other maritime infrastructure, 3) securing of bottom topography near quays and harbours, and 4) covering of polluted ground areas under water."
Multiconsult AS, Narvik, report in October 2010: "No damages were detected during the inspection except some erosion at the bottom edge. In this area the seabed is about 0,5 meters under the mattress, and about 1,0 meter behind the mattress. The cause of this is that the edge of the mattress was not properly secured. Except from this the mattress is intact and stable."
