Erosion protection in rivers

Pillars in rivers that are not based on solid ground are exposed to erosion around the foundation. This is also true about pillars under quays, jetties and other types of constructions in flowing water. Sometimes even the river banks itself need to be secured.

erdc-facilitySeveral factors decides the erosion forces in a river:
  • Flow speed
  • Volume / depth of the water
  • Grain sizes of the sand/gravel
  • Gravel type, weight/density
  • Bottom profile
  • Slope angle
  • River geometry (curves, width/narrowing, etc.)
  • Constructions in the water
  •

The Marecom technology is very flexible and can be applied in different ways to different places. All erosion projects will start with analysis and engineering, and suggested solutions discussed with the customer. The right design of the erosion protection will be determined and then put into production. Marecom will also provide instructions and management to the installation process.

Marecom AS is presently doing research on pillar protection together with Narvik University College and considering a field laboratory test in Vicksburg, Mississippi at the USACE test facility there.
